“Samsung Electronics has announced the bada 2.0 smartphone platform with support for near field communication (NFC), HTML5, the Wholesale Applications Community, multitasking and voice recognition. According to Samsung, bada 2.0 also comes with a new and improved software development kit (SDK) that opens up the platform to more developers working across different PC operating systems.”
Here is a can do company that push three smartphone platforms (Anroid, Win7 phone and BADA) and prosper while offering there products at good prices.
They certainly dont have all there eggs in one basket.
I keep on admiring this company more and more.
Indeed. As far as I can tell, handset build quality is Samsung’s weak point (at least in the low end), but otherwise they really seem to do great.
Yes and no…. I broke down and bought a new Samsung LCD a week before Superbowl and it came bundled with a Samsung Bluray Player.
Its nice because it can do Netflix and Pandora and can apparently have other applications created. However, when I go into Games, I only see Sudoku and 2 others, I go to Sports (plural) and see only one application (MLB.com).
Its nice that they do these kinds of things, but at the end of the day you’ll never see as many applications on those kind of things as you will on a box that runs Android or Google TV.
True.
But you have to remember that Samsung had huge vertical integration advantages. It also is a major supplier to all its competitors, so they can afford brute force their strategy at very little risk.
It is probably the most vertically integrated phone (everything else too?) manufacturer at the moment.
In that case, how do you explain HTC?
Erm…
Htc is not developing their own operating system beside android and WP7. Also they don’t produce dumbphones, nor are the 2nd largest phone manufacturer after Nokia.
But I imagine they have plenty of advantages being in taiwan (manufacturing deals etc).
What else is there to say?
HTC makes dumbphones… they have phones running the brew MP feature phone platform with a sense-esque skin
Never rule out such possibility.

Agreed, Nokia could learn a lot from these guys and girls.
Samsung diversifies with its own OS from the foundation of 3rd party products to gain independence and a bigger cut. Nokia had a solid and self-owned foundation but squandered it away and now has to seek salvation in the arms of an ISV. One can only hope that Nokia will not cease to R&D their own software to become independent again.
Is this related to their Enlightenment activities?
I’m voting to have @fran enthroned as editor.
