“Today’s release of Adobe Flash Player 10.2.152.26 is considered final by Adobe, according to the company’s Flash Team Blog, and ushers in a new level of hardware-accelerated video decoding in most modern Intel Macs […] The company has dropped all support for PowerPC-based players, including security updates, in a clear sign that the 10.1/10.2 releases are a “reference” release for Flash playback.”
I never got Flash to work on PPC Linux, it’s not exactly brilliant on Leopard PPC either to be honest, unless you’ve got about 4 G5 on the go.
“a dramatic reduction in CPU usage to play back 1080p Flash video, from 90 percent single-CPU use prior to hardware decoding down to less than 20 percent.”
Don’t they like say that, every time they bring out a update?
Yep.
Maybe they figure if they keep saying people will continue to believe it
I’ll have to try the new one again on my netbook and see if it can finally playback video as well as VLC does.
I have a Quad G5 and Flash is a joke even for non-HD video playback. This just continues down the path of Flash being a complete piece of crap.
But unlike previous times they’ve actually done something, namely adding stage video, which will actually bring about performance improvements rather than simply saying it in the hope of people actually believing it.
So far I’ve been pretty happy with 10.2 so far and as long as you run it with Safari on Mac OS X 10.6 you’ll get all the hardware accelerated goodness that comes with the territory.
I’ve never had a ppc mac, but i can say that while not perfect, it has always seemed to be somewhat decent on my first gen macbook pro (core duo 1.83)
Just kidding
10,2,152,27 is better
No, that one has been updated to 10.2.152.28, which adds security improvements and premium features. Please update now
And each and every one of them brings CPU usage from 90% to 20%.
The 64bit Linux build is still from November. :/
The problem I have with Flash is that it checks your release and won’t play unless you’re current.
Consumers shouldn’t stand for these forced upgrades. And I believe they won’t. The industry is poised to move away from Flash, in part, because of this manipulative attitude on the part of Adobe.
That is the problem you have with Flash? Seriously?
Can I assume you’re speaking on behalf of the Botnet Distributors Union?
I hate recycled acronyms…. when I first saw this, I thought “why would they drop it from mobile (Pocket PC) devices?
Glad it’s just for PowerPC devices…. they don’t need a new Flash anyway.
PPC was being used for PowerPC long before Microsoft developed the term Pocket PC.
