“Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s second-largest maker of wireless handsets, said it met a sales target for its most popular smartphone as the company seeks to narrow the gap with Apple Inc.’s iPhone. Samsung sold 10 million units of the Galaxy S model in 2010 after introducing the device in June, the company said in an e-mailed statement today.”
Yeah, but it’s worldwide. So this number isn’t anything special if you count it’s “all over the world”. ‘Lies—damn lies—and statistics’.
So what’s wrong with that? Statistics should be worldwide. it’s not like the usa inhabitants are some kind of demigods compared to the rest of the world
we don’t think we are demigods, seriously?
i don’t think that you are demigods either, but some americans (as the one that i replied to in the beginning) think that worldwide statistics are somehow useless, on another occasion, another american considered that LibreOffice is a bad name because Libre will be too hard to pronounce by the same nation, and nobody from the rest of the world ever complained about names like Open or Office. Nothing against you, but some of your conationals think that the world revolves around the “almighty” usa
Well… The name Libre office is a mistake. Not because nothing outside of the USA matters, but because of the pervasiveness of the English language. Its pretty popular, that English language.
As someone who knows someone who is actually English, I’m offended on his behalf that your implicitly attributing the popularity of the English language to the USA. Those Brits didn’t take over half the world, just to popularize cricket. /sarcasam.
I didn’t implied that, but they (you know who, the world revolves around them) may think that.
Sorry, I can participate in Apple vs Rest of The World flame wars but nationality is not a topic for any war. I think of me as a citizen of planet Earth. Years of Star Trek in childhood made me that way
I’m sure people from Saudi Arabia think like you and share the same world view. /sarcasm
It’s stupid to apply the own world view and ethical values on other countries and cultures. Or to think that ethical values are in some kind universal. This is basically what religious fundamentalists think…
I meant that for example Apple sold 21 millions in 3 months, not 10 millions in 6 months. And I’m from EU, not USA. Sorry ;P

my bad then for some of the things i said, but still you are wrong:
1. iphone 4 is the latest from a phone line that has been adwertised for years and allready has a fan base, samsung galaxy is a new product
2. if you want an android you have multiple options when it comes to models, manufacturers ….
3. I may sound like a troll but apple has a “tech religion” with a lot of sheeple following and buying everything they release on the market (this may not apply to phones, more to computers, but still the same rules applies to those fancy phones) regardless of the cost. I have to agree with Ballmer when he said that the apple logo on their laptops costs 500$.
There were many Samsungs with android before galaxy for example:
http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/04/26/samsung-i7500-confirmed-as-sa…
And samsung is one of the largest mobile phone producers.
Yeap, right. There are many more android phones than iPhones there. But not single phone is as successful as iPhone.
Hey, look from the other side – people buy phones with android in spite of android ;P
But seriously – it’s 500$ phone. It’s not an emotional buy.
Yeah, quoting Ballmer won’t give you more friends. Besides this quote it’s so actual like Gates’ “640K Ought to Be Enough for Everybody”. It was true few years ago, but now if you compare Apple prices with Dell or Sony (premium products) you will see that they’re quite a catch these days. Of course there are always cheaper products like Acer
Is there any public info about how many HTC Desires, Desire HDs have been sold worldwide? I know it’s not that significant, but I’d like to compare apples to apples.

Engadget stated that they sold like 4 million in the US, which is very good hefty number.
Yeap, 2 millions in South Korea (big market I guess), 4 millions in USA, rest – Worldwide
It’s unclear whether 10 million exceeded or missed Samsung’s expectations.
Also, layman may find it difficult to determine whether 10 million is a lot of phones – it would be useful to provide some comparison data against other models.
I think the number simply met their expectation, at least according to information from Bloomberg. It’s no wonder, it’s excellent piece of machinery.
With a retail price of c£350, consumers worldwide have spent £3.5bn on the phone. Not all of that revenue will flow to Samsung, but it’s lot of money by anyone’s measure.
Putting our faith in them would see us all walking around with a little more than one breast and a little less than one testicle…
Just wanted to mention that “Apple Inc.’s iPhone” is rendered as “Apple Inc.’s iPhone” in the Opera RSS reader. There is an encoding issue somewhere; apostrophes are not rendered correctly.
