Submitted by Ars Technica: “Today 377 members of the European Parliament adopted a written declaration on the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) in which they demand greater transparency, assert that ISPs should not up end being liable for data sent through their networks, and say that ACTA ‘should not force limitations upon judicial due process or weaken fundamental rights such as freedom of expression and the right to privacy’.”

To be honest, this is such big news that this very much deserves a front page item and not just a small announcement on the side. This would have had a detrimental effect on almost all things Internet-related and even quite many things non-Internet-related. I hope someone goes and writes a proper article and stirs some much-needed discussion on these things, public awareness, even when it only means OSNews regulars, is better than nothing.
I don’t think it’s all that important because a written declaration is actually quite meaningless seeing as how it’s not legally binding. Until I see the final vote count for the final version of the bill I’m remaining skeptical.

Alas, I can not write any articles worth reading, I just am not articulate enough nor do I have the required talent to make things interesting to read. This Anti-ACTA declaration is a really good, important thing, but as there still is time for this thing to swing around it’s important to keep the discussion going and perhaps sway a few more opinions and for that a well-written, coherent and interesting article on these things would be very welcome. I just can’t provide such an article myself, unfortunately.
