This could very well be another attempt by Google to establish itself as a successful social network under the title ‘Google Me’ after Orkut and Google Buzz. The seed to this rumor was originally a Tweet by Kevin Rose, Founder of Digg.

Eric Schmidt, Sergey Brin, and Larry Page are paying everyone $100 if they sign up for Google Wave in the next 24 hours. Hurry! Get it while you can!

There, now Google doesn’t need to invent another social networking site.
The deal with google web product is that they are the only ones with taste.
Try going to, say, twitter.com and then compare what you see with your buzz page.
Buzz looks pretty much like an environment you’d want to have for efficient work, compared to twitter that optimizes for short sms-like updates and “nice” first impression.
Perhaps google could create a “thinking man’s facebook” as well?
For some reason I’m happy about this. I think it’s because Google already know everything there is to know about me from my searches. Facebook are in this business to sell my personal information. Google are in this business to get me online as much as possible to view their ads. To me this is a huge difference and makes me far more comfortable to give Google my data over Facebook.
Totally agree with that. Also that business you talk about, took facebook to take risk that is paying now. Most people are leaving fabook, because of security and others are waiting another social network that convince them more also to migrate.
I’d love to see an alternative to Facebook – something more clean and simple, and I decided to try Buzz after the initial fuzz, but I stumbled upon a lot of resistance from my friends to create one more account, the usual answer was : “I’m happy with my Facebook profile”. I hope that Google can create something more efficient for work and real collaboration – something that I can’t achieve with Facebook – it takes too much time blocking some intrusive application, besides, everyone feels obliged to share some stupid video and pictures, most of the time.
Good thing about buzz is that it doesn’t really stress you out in the way facebook and twitter would (because you’ll be checking out gmail regularly anyway), even if you will probably retain your facebook profile. You’ll probably also have a different set of friends there.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for Google to help in diasporia? The way those people are going at the moment, you’ll have to have your own server in order to have your own profile.
A free diasporia.google.com or something, where the tweens that flock to Facebook could join up for free would surely give weight to the existing movement and also repair some of the recent damage to their record regarding privacy recently (not that it even touches Facebook’s recent record, of course)
I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with everyone. The initiative taken for the concern is very serious and need an
attention of every one. This is the concern which exists in the society and needs to be eliminated from the society as soon as possible.
