this is where i ask: “What is a directx media”?
The name doesnt make sense, and if it is to do with games, why would you use it when you can use higher performance orgbis (i cant spel atm) sound files.
from what i have noticed is if a game uses directx as its drawing engine you need a very new computer to play that game (battlefield, no one lives forever2, mohaa). But, if you go back to old quake3/halflife with their opengl engines, the graphics are faster and cripser imho. Maybe i’m wrong, maybe people who write games nowadays just dont know to write good clean code like yesteryear.

DVD/video playback libraries, and other such stuff.

That would suggest Windows XP only…
If you take the time to actually click the link, you will see that it is not so.
SDK stands for Software Development Kit and is not comparable to ogg vorbis. If you don’t know what it is, how can you say ogg vorbis offers higher performance?
And about directx vs opengl, of course older games have lower system requirements… I don’t think you can say one API is faster or produces better image quality than the other. It depends on drivers, card, your design and implementation.
>> “about directx vs opengl”
DirectX cannot be compared with OpenGL.
Direct3D can.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing…
