From GNU-Friends: “A new image of GNU (also known as GNU/Hurd) for the Bochs i386 emulator has been available for download since yesterday. It seems to work quite well (as well a Hurd-based system gets). Network, Xfree86 and the new console server are installed and configured, although there are some problems with X. Anyone interested on trying it out should read the included mini-FAQ first.“
I haven’t try yo install it and I’m sure it’s good system and I really respect developers.
But it still very funny to read the project web page;
The Hurd throws this historical garbage away. We think that we have found a more flexible solution called shadow filesystems. Unfortunately, support for shadowed filesystems is not yet implemented
Comparing list of features of GNU/Mach and GNU/Hurd one can find that they are very similar but GNU/Hurd has 3 more features :”it’s compatible “, “it’s extensible” and “it’s stable” . Just feel the edge with this from FAQ “The default pager recognizes and respects Linux swap partitions. It will also swap to a raw partition, i.e. anything that it does not recognize as Linux swap. ”
Fun as it supposed to be.
the hurd runs on top of GNUmach to give us GNU/Hurd. The hurd server collection + GNUmach are considered the kernel of the GNU system.
I hope this clarifies something for you : )
