Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2 (SP2) was released today. This midcycle free update is designed to improve speed, stability and compatibility. SP2 delivers highly requested features throughout the suite as well as a new tool, Document Connection for Mac, that helps improve access and browsing to documents on SharePoint Products and Technologies and Microsoft Office Live Workspace.
I still don’t see task/memo sync’ing with Exchange yet. Judging by the forums, I’d say that feature is pretty high up there. I have a Blackberry and Office 2008 is quite crippled with only mail/contact support.
It’s unfortunate that Microsoft wouldn’t want to fix such an easy and simple issue faster.
Performance improvements are real – which is a nice change from the usual service pack of ‘performance improvements’ but difficulty trying to actually find those improvements.
The one thing thing that does peeve me off is the lack of Messenger 8.0 which includes video support – Microsoft promised it over 8 months ago and have failed to deliver (like usual).
Does it fix the issue with Spaces? Don’t know if the bug is known (or it’s just a weird issue on my Mac), but the Office applications using toolboxes freak out when I am switching to another space: the toolbox gets in a different space than the document. If I click on the toolbox, I return to the space with the document without applying the function I just clicked… It makes the whole suite completely unusable to me; I’d rather set up a VM with Office in Windows than disabling Spaces.
Does this add ODF support to Mac Office? I couldn’t see anything after a quick Googling…
