“Sun announced that at a special meeting of stockholders held on July 16, 2009, its stockholders adopted the merger agreement entered into with Oracle Corporation, under which Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share in cash. Approximately 62% of the shares of Sun common stock outstanding as of the record date for the meeting voted to adopt the agreement.” Well, it seems I won’t have to take down our fancy Oracle icon which I put up when the news first got out.
Even if they didn’t buy sun couldn’t you have just kept it anyway and started reporting on other oracle news?
I think the Sun icon is way better.
Has there been any word if the sale would be blocked by the FTC? The #1 database maker buying up a big competitor could be troublesome. Course, since its open source now, maybe it doesn’t make a difference.
I’d expect there to be no opposition on that front. Without this takeover Sun are going bankrupt and nothing can be gained by that.

Please … you’re not referring to MySQL as a competitor to Oracle, are you?
Oracle’s competitors are the likes of Microsoft (SQL Server), IBM (DB2), SAP at a push. MySQL, for all its ubiquity on the web, is a toy compared to that lot.
Let’s hope Oracle move quickly to rejig the product roadmaps and sure up their support for OpenSolaris so we can remove this dark cloud hovering above all things Sun
