We already reported on the port of RISC OS 5 to the Beagleboard, but at that time, it couldn’t yet boot the graphical shell. This has now been resolved, and there’s a screenshot to prove it. The code should already be in the ROOL CVS repository, so adventurous Beagleboard owners can start playing with it.
The video code still looks pretty basic (640×480 only) but it does look like things are progressing very quickly. The Beagleboard is without a doubt, both the cheapest and most powerful machine ever to run RISC OS, so this should be quite interesting to see as it develops.
Well not the cheapest. That must have been the Bush TV boxes…
I don’t count deeply embedded uses. To count as “running” an OS in my book the OS has to be at least as exposed as a PDA or smartphone OS…
