“Competitor Scott Draeker isn’t impressed with TransGaming Technologies’ plan to use its version of Wine to get Windows games to work on Linux. […] Not so fast, says Draeker, whose Loki Entertainment has been the flagship company of that “traditional” approach. Draeker has doubts about games running on Wine working as well as games actually made to run on Linux. Why not? At least the Linux folks can finally break the umbilical cord with Windows once and for all!
OK perhaps games don’t run as well in wine as they would running directly in Linux but games running in wine is better than no games at all. Until every game gets a Linux version wine is an essential on any Linux box!
Yipee. I can now play Half Life under Linux. However, will Transgaming’s distro also let me run Office 97 and Quicken 2000 without any problems? There’s a couple other financial research apps for Windows I’d be interested in getting to work under Linux. My thought is that anything that can handle complex video games should be able to handle more mundane apps with relative ease. Maybe the upcoming Lindows would be more suitable for regular apps? Any thoughts?
what is lindows??
http://www.lindows.com has info on it, very little info on it.
