Adam Williamson, who was let go from Mandriva at the end of last year, has announced that he has been hired by Red Hat as a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer. I’m sure everyone who has benefited from Adam’s patient support over the years will wish him success in his new role. A sincere congratulations from the OSNews team, Adam! Update: Adam mentions that Red Hat has also hired Mandriva alum Vincent Danen.
Well done!
A move like this inspires confidence in Red Hat’s attitude toward its end users.
congratulations! hope you have good time at Red Hat
Great to hear, good news both for Adam and the community, as for Redhat too. Looking forward to it.
Man, I’m so glad to hear this as Adam is one of the nicest persons on the Linux community ever and I hope that those idiots at Mandriva realize the huge mistake that they made.
Also kudos to RedHat for this move. I’m pretty sure that they won’t regret this one bit!
Well it is matter of principle time.
I am stopping recomending Mandriva. I’m not (as I said I wouldn’t) goung to buy powerpack.
I’m going to mail them to let them know why.
Well done in getting qa new job AdamW
Us eeepc users etc thank you for all your help. PS I’m speaking for a group of us here. ๐
Cheers
The boabie
First off: Congratulations Adam and RedHat. I’m happy for both of you.
Why would you do that? That doesn’t make any sense. Mandriva is struggling financially and couldn’t afford to pay Adam. And your reaction is to punish them financially? OK, so the remaining developers at Mandriva will be fired too. I guess that’s what you had in mind, right?
Yes you have a very good point. However, many of us were so P(*&^ed off that they got rid of the main front man, that we added to a pettition to keep him. We said that if they kept adam then we would buy powerpack.
I have to say I was a bit rash there. We all do things in the heat.
I’ll still buy PP now Adam has a Job. However, I will email them to say that I seriously considered not doing so..
That way, I let my feelings known and still contribute.
PS thanks for bringing me back to my senses. ๐
All the best
Bob; Sunny Scotland
Thanks a lot, guys. Must be a slow news day around here
You should change your profile.
Congratulations Adam!!! Yay! Great to see you landed softly and in a good place!
Adam was a tremendous asset to Mandriva. I’m not sure Mandriva ever understood what Adam did for their community. He was always approachable. I have watched him help every level of Mandriva user from newbie to expert. I have seen his responses to even the most obscure blog posts which mentioned Mandriva. I hope that Red Hat is able to see that he is much more than just a quality control guy.
BTW, I forgot to mention – the story should really reference Vincent Danen, too. He is also moving from Mandriva to Red Hat: http://linsec.ca/blog/2009/01/23/switching-hats/ . Vincent’s been more or less Mandriva’s entire security team for years and years now (long before I got here), so that’s at least as big news as mine is!
So this is quite surprising, not only you, but vdanen too! I hope Mandriva manage to find new blood as proper replacement. Wow, so the big shuffle still have not ended since I’ve gone. Anyway, wish both of you bright future in new career.
Oden is returning to take charge of security.
To me, Adam represented Mandriva VERY well. He was very patient in his responses in the forums, and he never came off as a blind marketing person. He gave Mandriva a very professonal, very friendly face in many of the Tech sites around the web (like OSNews!). It’s too bad to see such talented people leave Mandriva, but it should be a real benefit to Redhat.
