The second pre-release of Mandriva Linux 2009 Spring is now available. This alpha 2 version concentrates on updating the major desktop components of the distribution, including KDE 4.2 RC 1, GNOME 2.25.4, Xfce 4.6 Beta 4, X.org server 1.5, Python 2.6.1.The technical specifications are available. Alpha 2 also includes a complete rewrite of msec, the security framework of Mandriva Linux. This release also supports ext4.
It would be nice if my laptop finally gets properly supported.
I installed it last night and two things don’t work yet for me: the new K3B and Kopete. As a work around K3B 1.0.5 works fine and can be installed from Mandriva’s software repositories. As for Kopete it seems that I’m the only one having trouble with it. Could it be because I performed a custom install? And KDE 4.2 is still missing the System Monitor applet (or at least I couldn’t find it).
This Mandriva has one of the most recent kernels. If this 2009.1 beta does not support your hardware then I doubt some other distro will.
