“The FreeBSD project is finally, after much work, pleased to announce the availability of an official FreeBSD web based discussion forum. It is our hope that this forum will serve as a public support channel for FreeBSD users around the world and as a complement to our fine mailing lists.”
has become a consumer class OS. Excellent news!!!
You should also check daemonforums.org the continuation of old bsdforums.org (RIP).
I’m happy to see freebsd.org has at last its own forum. It should have been implemented right from the beginning. I see they are using reCaptcha as validation scheme, this is nice but not enough. It is just a matter of time before spammers find this nice forum and start bugging us. I hope the admins activate the challenge/response antispam scheme with a question specific to FreeBSD, for instance: “Give one of the names of the FreeBSD mascot?” I doubt a manual spammer would insist. Spam is one of the reasons why bsdforums.org closed doors. It’s such a pity. I have sent the admin a few emails offering free help to solve the spam problem, and I have received no reply whatsoever, not even a “No, thanks“. I have also offered free help to improve their web site. No response. Anyway, it’s been a few months bsdforums.org has been down, let’s turn the page and head over to forums.freebsd.org!

From the beginning of what exactly? 🙂
For suggestions, head to the Feedback sections in the forums and leave a message.
Spam was just a symptom of a more basic problem. (The site was reportedly abandoned by its only admin.)
Anyway, that’s water under the bridge now.
Just been talking to one of the admins and he said he didn’t receive any email from you. So I suggest re-sending your email or posting in the Feedback section as I mentioned previously.
Congrats FreeBSD! May you and all other Unix prosper!
I’m glad to see that the FreeBSD foundations is making efforts to gather a larger userbase. A community surrounding a project usually produces positive results. This has potential to server as a central location for requesting assistance which would double as a help repository.
I just hope that FreeBSD continues to be a rock-solid OS. Popularity is rarely a positive thing.
I’m not sure I agree with that. As popularity grows, so do bug report counts and the pool of competent people willing to code for the project.
A nice step toward a bright future =)
