From QNXZone: QNX Software Systems has released the Patch A for all versions of QNX Momentics. There is no readme or changelog available, so the only information available on what is included in the patch is from the short summary on QDN that reads as follows: “It provides enhancements and addresses some of the general issues pertaining to Voyager, Phplay, and Photon microGUI”.
QNX is a very cool UNIX. Photon is very fast and lightweight, and there are a lot of nice native apps to use, along with a native build of Mozilla. It’s fully POSIX complient, and it has a new IPv6 stack available. The only drawback is the filesystem. It’s ancient, limited to 32 character names, and slow as molassas. The IDE driver is also pretty horrible. It used to take (in v6.1) about two to three times as long to untar a large archive in QNX as on Linux!
Well, the filename limit is still 48 characters in 6.2.0 but the EIDE driver has been much improved. Now properly supporting UDMA5 and other niceness.
Did they add hardware OpenGL support yet? I read that they’re working on it and expected it in the next version of Photon. All I need is hardware OpenGL acceleration and then I can actually do something with QNX.
HI Chris..
any news/comments on a new fs?
Thanks…
I can’t really comment on anything to do with future releases until QNX makes an annoucement. Never looks to have one preson claiming on things while the company claims another.
When are they going to fix:
1) USB Mouse support – It STILL does not detect my mouse!
2) Minimal USB device support – Atleast things like Mice, Keyboards, Zip Drives etc
3) Matrox G550 support
4) OpenOffice – Photon Native
Heck, I’m using freebsd 4.7 and having less problems. Some one at QNX, please fix it!
