“It’s easy to view the computer interface as nearly static. Since the advent of mouse-driven, windowed interfaces over 20 years ago, much of human-computer interface (HCI) has gone the same route. But a proliferation of mobile devices is beginning to change that and, even if that weren’t the case, important differences are developing in what information is available to computers, and how we access it. In March 2007, Microsoft Research invited 45 leading researchers to discuss where HCI would be in 2020; a report summarizing their conclusions has now been made available.”
Like the promise of flying cars in the 2000’s ?
Unix now, Unix forever.
Stop trying to design new and better eye candy, it won’t work… nothing will replace a keyboard.
As everyone says these days, “n00bs”.
yeah, keyboards will be around forever in some form or another. I don’t know why people always want to “replace” things. Just come out with NEW interfaces and keep improving existing ones. They don’t have to get replaced. jeez
Even if everything else in the interface is controlled by thoughts nose movements or whatever, the keyboard is the most optimal way of inputting text and will always be. It’s better than voice, and it is surely better than thoughts.
give us a break with the goddam sacred unix.
it’s great but there will be other great things coming next.
and keyboard is not great for everything, things like touchscreens and other devices can do much more things while interacting with your computer.
