Ubuntu 6.06.2 has been released. “This is the second maintenance release of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, which continues to be supported with maintenance updates and security fixes until June 2009 on desktops and June 2011 on servers. This maintenance release focuses on improving hardware support for popular server platforms, including updated server installation media. Over 600 post-release updates have been integrated, so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation, and a number of bugs in the installation system have been corrected.”

It’s a major drawback that there is no such support and you don’t want mixed environments..
if you were running IBM DB2 it would be supported.
What the point of supporting outdated software? It will be completely incompatible with much newer software releases after 1-2 years. When we’ll have software that does not need any bugfixing and updating- is it possible at all?
I personally think that software is overrated- it’s time to start using something else… something more human….

Maybe once a certain feature set has been realized some of us are satisfied and able to go back to doing actual work on our machines? You do remember some people do this thing called work whenever they’re not tweaking their computers and have managed to install the necessary applications they need, right? Once you’ve managed to do that, most people generally consider it a good time to leave well enough alone…
I’ve been looking forward to the next LTS release of Ubuntu since Feisty Fawn, and will enjoy seeing if everything I need will work on Hardy Heron so hopefully I can get off the bugfix-update cycle for awhile.
If it weren’t for all the bugs I’ve experienced with Gutsy Gibbon, I’d have said it was a done deal, now I’ll have to see how the new system shakes out and get ready to look around at some other distros again if it doesn’t work well on my systems. That’s the real problem with these kinds of situations–which applications and level of performance are ‘good enough’ is a highly subjective thing, so we wait and we distro hop until the next best thing shows up…

You pretty much summed up my situation. I’m here in bliss having fun on a stable(for me) and feature rich(for me) Feisty 7.04. I tried Gutsy buts it’s a piece of poo.
The only reason now to move up a notch is if your need new hardware support and can’t be bothered jumping through flaming hoops to get it running on an older release.
I too can’t wait for Hardy, if it’s as good as feisty is it’ll keep me happy for the time of it’s support cycle and perhaps beyond
I wish 7.04 was an LTS release.
It would be good if more linux users were like this.
It seems like the whole reason some use linux is the continual updating/tweaking of the OS rather than just using it. Can’t wait for the next version to bring all new bugs and problems. Sorry, should call them features I guess.
Having used Linux for so many years both at home and in a squid server, I have come to a conclusion that stable release distributions are only best suited for servers and not home desktops. People using home desktops are better off using a rolling release distribution.
