“Since FreeBSD 4.6-RELEASE in June 2002, we have updated a number of software programs in the base system, such as GCC and sendmail. Several new drivers have been added for USB devices and disk controllers. We have also incorporated updates for XFree86 and our Linux compatibility libraries. FreeBSD 4.7 also incorporates all of the security and bug fixes from 4.6.2 (released in August 2002), including several ATA-related bugfixes, updates for OpenSSL and OpenSSH, and fixes to address several security advisories.” Announcement for FreeBSD 4.7 and release notes.
Too bad I have to wait for the official CDs to be ready (No ADSL). I shell finaly upgrade my 4.4 instalation.
I also hope that the native version of Opera (for FreeBSD) browser has already been included on the ports.
Opera’s native FreeBSD version is not yet in the ports. It will be when the final version arrives.
Is there anyone here who has checked out IPFW2 yet? That’s the most interesting new feature in 4.7, as far as I’m concerned .
>> Is there anyone here who has checked out IPFW2 yet?
Yes, it has been in the STABLE branch for age, which I always track on this branch. IPFW2 is a lot nicer than IPFW and easier. Also, it controls better and faster.
I use the UNSTABLE for some time now and it never let me down
i wonder if STABLE is still nessesary
Bas
BTW, if anyone would like to write a review of FreeBSD 4.7, mainly from the server point of view, we would be happy to host it.

What other point of view could there possibly be for freebsd??

Works fine on the desktop with me

…and keep the screenshots down to the non-existant as well.
Personally, I think the time would better be placed in getting a comprehensive review of 5.0 fired up and on the burner. It appears to be do Real Soon Now, and while I’m sure it will change, and stablize, upon release, I think that if someone could start working on a good review of it now, and just kept it up to date so that when it comes it could be posted quickly, that would be great.
Particularly new features, and comparisons with the 4.X series would be wonderful.

Here too, but I am not good at write review..
>> Personally, I think the time would better be placed in getting a comprehensive review of 5.0 fired up and on the burner.
I agreed, 5.0 already have the GCC 3.2.1 ported yesterday or today. Before, it was 3.1 or 3.2.. Also, SMP and many other great stuff are going to be in 5.0, so we will need to find someone who will write a great review about it.
>> Also, SMP and many other great stuff are going to be in 5.0
I mean, mostly of stuff are already ported and other more stuff are coming.. Just wanted to clear it up..
I had issues with 5.0 dev, like it wouldn’t boot from a CD-RW, whereas all my other (4.3 to 4.6) on that same CD worked fine.
