“It will never beat Windows on the desktop, but the Linux operating system has an undeniable charm in the world of corporate computing: It’s free. Microsoft’s Bill Gates may be richer, but when it comes to unvarnished business aggression, no one in the high-tech world can top Larry Ellison, the 58-year-old founder and CEO of Oracle. This is a man cocky enough to fly his own fighter jet, competitive enough to have his minions pilfer Gates’ trash, and mean enough to verbally flog his executives in public. He’s worth $14 billion, making him the fourth-wealthiest American at last count, and unlike his peers who demur on the subject of money, Ellison isn’t afraid to admit that he loves being rich.” At Fortune.com.
“A charity? A breakdown? No. Ellison was sucking up to this group for a simple reason. Developers of free software, in particular the hundreds of thousands of Linux programmers, are hot commodities these days.”

I wonder what it must feel like to be working as slave labor for the likes of Larry Ellison and Oracle? Even Microsoft pays its so-called “Microserf” developers, at least.
“Make me rich you pathetic, idealistic losers!”

Sorry but Ellison scares me and I wish that Ellison would not run ads like this in newspapers. Keep the axe out to make sure Ellison has absolutely NO chance of making decisions for the future of Linux. I realize that he would almost have no chance of being in anyway in control of Linux’s future, but the question is does Ellison.
“…As Ellison told his Linux World audience, anyone who longs for the days when Linux was the province of hackers and academics–in other words, the great intellectual unwashed–should forget about it. The suits have taken Linux over. Whatever happens next, they’re here to stay.”
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
i’m suprised he didn’t get flogged by the attendee’s shortly after that remark. makes one wonder ,him an mcnealy are always taking shots at gates.. i think they frighten me more than bill ever will.
I wouldn’t mind suites, as song long as they had a clue on what they are talking about!
Heck, they’re struggling right now to run their businesses properly, now they want to get into the holy realms of Linux!
None of them are willing to slice and dice from the top down.
Heck, why the hell do some businesses need 14 board members? me, get rid of the lot. Give me a bean counter or two, a spin doctor, a guru/visionary, and I’d be able to run any company listed on the NYSE without any problems and increase profitability.
Half these CEO’s are panseys without any balls, and can’t face the music when they need to, so they send along a lawyer or two to cover their behinds. Aka, Enron.
As for Enron. Tie them to a chair and give them two choices, cough up the information and face a life sentence, or take the 5th, and send them instantly to be executed. A long and painful one at that. Yes, I will volunteer to administrate justice, with pleasure 😉
Suck!
A typical mass media article. Trying to sell Linux as a “it-can-save-you-$$” system. Havent we had enough of such articles?
Slap some pointy ears on Lenard Nimoy and you get Spock. Slap some pointy ears on Larry Ellison and you get Lucifer.
Working as slave labor? Thats rich. The fact of the matter is that when you give your software away under Free licenses EVERYONE is entitled to the freedoms in the license. Sorta like under the constitution of the United States EVRYONE is entitled to the same rights.
Do not speak out such a statement. Who knows what is going/coming within the next decade. So be carefull with such a bold statement
I, and most Linux guys I know, work with it because it is fun. I guess suits can’t understand something so simple as doing what you like to do.
