“Serenity Systems International and Mensys BV are pleased to announce the immediate availability of eComStation 2.0 RC1. This release is available to customers with an active Software Subscriptions Services subcription.” There are a lot of changes and new features; you can find them in the announcement and changelog.
keep on going guys. though i wonder now that scitech will no longer be doing there snap graphics tool kit what eComstation will go to instead.
Snap will be supported for a while. Scitech is trying to sell the code base but its still updating and supporting it,
Beta 2 of panaroma VESA driver has been released for eComStation software subscription customers.

The performance on most systems is close to SNAP. It still being developed further.
To my best understanding there is no support on SNAP anymore as Scitech is selling there technology. But view the newsgroups of Scitech….
Nice, but does anyone actually USE eComStation commercially?
Banks and insurance companies. I worked at Prudential a few years back and nearly every desktop was Warp 4 or eComstation.
This almost seem like the Y2K bug to me. I know it cost money to convert software, but just how long do banks and insurance compagnies think they have with OS/2?
My Bank here (CIBC) was on OS/2 but a couple years ago they moved to Windows with better, up-to-date software.
One day or another, they will have to scrap what they use and start over. C#/.NET (MONO) anyone?
“I know it cost money to convert software, but just how long do banks and insurance compagnies think they have with OS/2?”
As long as it gets the job done it would be foolish to change it.
“One day or another, they will have to scrap what they use and start over. C#/.NET (MONO) anyone?”
Well, one day or another they’d have to scrap C*/Mono too.
As long as the software still does the job, the longer you wait to upgrade, the more money you save.
Banking software is expensive to make because it requires a lot of testing as the outcome of an error can be very damaging.
It’s called “public beta” guys…
Public beta actually allows a lot of potential customers who have never heard of, seen, or paid for a previous product to actually get to try what you’re offering.
Another advantage of Public beta OS is that a lot of techies love to play, and enjoy playing with OS’s before release, and some will even go as far as reporting bugs, this is also another good way to get interest in your product.
It really is a shame to close off beta and RC testing for products such as OS’s that will get hammered in a lot of different areas by different people, the more testing ahead of release the better.
Anyway, best of luck on your launch.
I don’t think think these guys are really trying to take on Microsoft and Apple to extend their userbase, but seem more interested in to holding onto the old OS/2 market and milking for all its worth.
I wonder if they would be allowed to do a public beta as eComStation is still based on Warp 4 licensed from IBM so I should think that they have to pay royalty fees on each copy, whether sold or not.
I don’t think they can … unless they were to get permission from IBM to release another updated LiveCD version. That would be more useful than nothing, IMO.
