“One thing that I’ve been playing with off and on for some time is a small efficient little solution for handling basic Bluetooth proximity detection, specifically for being able to perform certain actions when a cell phone or other Bluetooth device is in range of my Powerbook.” More here.
I have been using this in Windows for last 3 years. As soon as i bring my PDA in close proximity to my thinkpad, Windows immediately detects it and then you can share files and do other interesting things.
Nice, how do you do it?

I have proximity detection on my Linux.
Its very nice, when i come into range of my workstation my cellphone irc client disconnects, and my amarok/kaffeine registers with my phone, so i can see nowplaying, plus meddle with the playlist and such.
When i then leave proximity, my cellphone automatically connects to irc with my own-written irc client, irc replacement protocol, and relay server(optimized to use as little bandwidth as possible )
its really sweet.
Well, Clicker, or I guess as it’s called now Salling Clicker, has been around since 2002 at least. I know it originally required a sony phone to work with your mac, heck, thats why I got a t68i back then.
I believe it supports a few more phones and has a windows client now. it is some pretty amazing software.
