…seen as the successor to Palm OS (Garnet).
I dunno about that. Whether ALP is really seen as the successor to Palm OS (Garnet) depends on how sensibly Palm (formerly PalmOne) wants to deal with them. Consider that Palm OS (Cobalt) was stillborn largely because PalmOne felt it wasn’t a system adequate for their purposes.
I say this after just getting a brand new Palm T|X to sync with a Linux box (FC5), so I have a real interest in something coming out. I have no desire to migrate to Windows Mobile.
Palm gives every indication of not being interested in ALP.
Since ALP is a linux platform with a Garnet emulator bolted on the side, this should come as no surprised.
Not to mention that ALP is late to the table, not backed by the big US players (Moto, mostly,) and slow.
I suspect ALP will do OK in Asia but poorly in the US and Europe and not show up on any Palm products.
