From my side of the screen, I think Apple’s combeback can be from several things, first the mac fans who simply would not let Apple die. Secondly, their switch from OS 9 to OS X.
My first gut instinct was to say, “oh it is because of Microsoft’s infusion of 150USD million investment!” But we have to really examine why Apple isn’t dead yet. What kept Apple alive was the fact that they are the platform for marketers(magazines, Newspapers, etc.). Surely this helped them stay alive.
Now with the slew of available applications, Apple is in a better position than they were before. Simply put, I don’t with OS9 they were not the platform to develop applications for. Now they are! Weird how the market place can turn a dead horse into a newly reborn one.
That being said, Apple won’t be the Holy Grail if they keep their prices high and find a cheaper alternative! Lets face it, Apple is pricey! Don’t get me wrong, they have their watered down Macintoshes(mac mini), but you have to ask yourself, for how long will that really take you? It is not really extensible as a PC but thats me.
Personally, I don’t like Apple and they should have been dead a long time ago, but Jobs did a good job and bringing them from the brink of death. In a way they deserve this remergence. That’s me.

I agree that switching from System 9 to OSX was a big deal, I think you are ignoring some things.
Firstly, the investment from MS was a PR move that was part of a larger agreement to avoid a law suit over stolen… sorry, borrowed IP.
Secondly in the mid to high-end spaces (where Apple and frankly every other vendor) wants to be) Apple is either at parity or less expensive. Look at the Mac Pro and the new Core 2 Duo MBPs.
I think Apple’s resurgence has a lot to do with cachet of name recognition, a stellar OS and hardware, the iPod and Steve Jobs. Remember Apple’s comeback started with the original iMac… not the iPod.

My workplace switched to Win 95; ultimately to Win2000. I had PLENTY of opportunity to switch to Windows, but once you see how it *can* be, everything else is measured against the Mac. To this day, I’d take OS 9– which VASTLY inferior to OS X– over Windows–and given my druthers, I’ll never boot OS 9 or below ever again.
“Secondly, their switch from OS 9 to OS X. ”
They tried to reinvent the wheel with “Copland”. They failed.

MSFT did REALLY well on that, when they sold it. Better than they have done percentage-wise than they do as a company.

Steve Jobs”
For sure. Getting tech “just right”, I’ve determined, is d**ned difficult. Still hasn’t been done for cell phones, IMHO.
Steve Jobs
Reality distortion field.
Apple makes money from hardware, but their strength is definitely the supreme quality of their software, both OS and apps.
‘Personally, I don’t like Apple and they should have been dead a long time ago’: You really would like to go 30 years back in time?

You have a good point. I won’t argue that.

No, I wouldn’t only because I am not a part of that era, so my input would be useless. However, that being said, I speak about my personal dislikes of Apple in the present tense. I don’t like what they have and are becoming. They say they’re open source but yet their commitment to the open source community is questionable. The treatment of their enthusiast and fan is quite appalling.
Steve Jobs is a visionary. He has always deserved the majority of the credit for getting off the ground. During the 80’s, the only reason Apple started to slip is because Steve lost sight of what was important in his life and started letting it show in his work, like we all do at times, and finally was basically forced out of his own company. Its no suprise that when he came back, the life also came back into the company. Now the only question is what will happen when Apple loses him for good?
If only there was a unrecommend system for articles …
Why must we keep beating this dead horse?
