The Enlightenment team has released 0.16.8.4, and as usual, this is mainly a bugfix and maintenance release. You can grab the release from the Sourceforge page.

But when is e17 released? I want it 6 years ago
e17 is already quite stable…you can use it right now without much hassle.
but anyway, having used e17, i can say that it’s not really great. it’s fast and it looks good but usability speaking, blaaah…
When it needs is some sort of official distro connected at the hip driving the polish and wrapping up the loose ends. Like Gnome/Ubuntu Kde/Suse … well not that thats what drove the quality of those DE’s but E17 needs to tie alot of loose ends for mass consumtion … elivecd begins to approach that idea.
Yeah, that is because it isn’t finished yet.
It will have icons on the desktop, a way of managing files etc. Currently work is being done on the ‘file dialog’ if i remember correctly. They are making it so that it will be reusable later for file management (icon & thumbmail view).
I find it a bit sad that they dont have a larger developer base. For i find the vision and developing attitude really great. No rush to display foo art if it isn’t done correctly. If something needs to be rewritten because it can be done better, so be it.
Kudos to the E team

E17 is working nicely, but to be honest, it’s much too much “bling bling” for my taste. I wouldn’t run it on a production desktop. Otherwise, i’m all for people coding what they enjoy.
Use it every day, E17 rocks!
tho its for PS3 first
…Everybody has a three button mouse. Good luck with that, since all the modifier keys that might emulate a middle button are already taken by Enlightenment itself.
HIGga, please.
What’s wrong with 2-button middle-mouse emulation?
1. you never bothered to look for configuration – did you, where you can change what is bound to what, where, how, why, when etc.
2. e ONLY uses alt + mouse button by default – ctrl, shift, windows modifier key, meta etc. are not used by default. several wm’s have the same bindings as e as it is a pseudo-standard. all modifiers – hahahahhaha.
maybe you should do some fact finding – and even use the software before opening your mouth.
