The Inquirer has been looking at the latest release of Microsoft’s Vista operating system. This time, we tackle build 5744, otherwise known as Release Candidate 2. Tested today is the x64 version, which has a date stamp of 03/10/06. So what has changed over RC1 and earlier builds? Elsewhere, Microsoft has said they expect Vista’s deployment rate to be twice that of Windows XP. Finally, even though RC2 will be the last public test build, Microsoft still has changes up its sleeve for Vista RTM.
Anybody know when ‘the Complete version’ will be released?
Robert McLaws notes that after RC2, Microsoft is changing the Product Activation Keys and checking in new code including some UI code as they continue work toward RTM.
Maybe we’ll see a new UI?
After the jump from “Watercolor” to “Luna”, I cringe at the very thought.
I think the best RC is one that gets RTM without any changes. Wasn’t that the purpose of RC’s? Why would they still change code at this point and push in to final, why not RC3 and if that one’s ok make that RTM.
Oh, sorry, wrong script.
“Windows’ll live up to the hype this time, Microsoft – this time!”
“Microsoft has said they expect Vista’s deployment rate to be twice that of Windows XP.”
Whatever that guy’s smoking, I want some! The only way that kind of deployment will happen is if even more than five years passes until Vista’s successor is released.
