Here is an article which reviews Mandriva 2007 and provides tips as well as plenty of screenshots. Everything worked from the start and the Live CD is quite impressive, says the author – comes with XGL enabled on the disc too. Another Mandriva-related review is the ‘Mandriva Corporate Server 4.0’ article at SoftwareInReview.com.
I’m going to give powerpack+ a try shortly.A little bit of nostalgia after fiddling with Mandrake 8.2 in the past.
This is just the best GNU/Linux distribution I have ever tried. I won’t say that it is bug-free, but it is actually very stable and efficient.
Thanks to all Mandriva team!
does ANYONE give a flip about mandriva anymore? if so, why?
Yes. It is my distribution of choice both at home and at work.
The main reason is that back in the late 90’s and early 00’s when I was trying to break out of Windows’ grip, I installed RedHat Linux about 4 times and just never got comfortable with it. Then I installed Mandrake 8.1, and loved it and I’ve never had a reason to switch. Though I experiment occasionally with others.
Why on earth do you have such a dismal attitude?
Mandriva might have had some problems lately, but it’s one of the top 10 distributions out there. Or one of the top 5.
So yes, I guess MANY people do care about it.
Maybe you should try one of their live-cd editions (“Mandriva One”) and you’ll understand why.
I’m not a Mandriva user, but I have to admit it has some features no other distro has.
I just wish the damn torrents weren’t so slow. I have been trying to download the DVD for two days now and it is dead slow.
I then tried downloading the CD with the same results. The right ports are forwarded on my router. So, it is either a problem of a bunch of leechers capping their upload or simply not enough people downloading at the same time.
I wouldn’t mind testing this, if I can get my hands on it. If enough know of a fast FTP mirror, do post it.
Thanks.

Looks flashy. Maybe Mandriva will replace SuSE on my laptop.
Mandriva 2007 is an impressive release. I would happily recommend it to anyone.
I recently tried Fedora Core 5 and Suse 10.1 and both had issues with my computer. Ubuntu, my previous choice, wouldn’t even boot the Live CD or install CD. Then I tried RC2 of Mandriva 2007 and everything worked out of the box including ndiswrapper and AIGLX. I was fully impressed.
Mandrake was the first distro that really worked for me, 7.1, and it’s nice to see Mandriva putting out a solid product again.
I used to really enjoy Mandrake, but Mandriva 2006 just didn’t feel right to me, and I had some nasty bugs (yes, I reported them). I’ve been running Mandriva 2007 since it was publicly released, and while that is by no means a long enough period to get a true feel for the system, so far everything is going well. It is just about as fast as my Slackware 11 install on the same system, which is impressive for a “noob-friendly” distro, to say the least.
I think that a lot of users find cedega and lindvd to be included very appealing. And Mandriva isn’t second to any other mainstream distribution regarding usability, performance, support continuity etc..
The apps will make the difference i think.
