Apparently they’ve been maintaining development of AmigaDE (AmigaOS 5.0), while developing AmigaOS 4 as a fall-back.
After six years of lies he’s back with more of the same “OS4 is all messed up, OS5 is where all the good stuff is, and we changed the plans for it again”.
He’s still talking about “OS5”, “Amiga Anywhere” and “DE”, but now they have nothing to do with Tao’s Intent, its something else.
No offence or anything, but my god, is the Amiga world one big mess of companies, versions, names, contracts, and hardware.
For the love of god, there are TWO Amiga, Inc.’s!

But you are right, it’s all one big legal mess.
I’m sure there has been loads going on in the background, but as all of it have been under various NDA’s none of us will probabaly know what.
Maybe Amiga inc. should have a word with the 3D realms and have a simultaneous release of new Amiga hardware with Dukem Nukem Forever!
Over the next 5 years you will see OS 4, 5, and version 6 in the market along with supporting builds and infrastructure across several digital devices.

Just when the soap opera was getting boring.
I’ve been following the Amiga since the 80s and I really don’t know what to say or what to think.
Apparently OS5 has been in development for 2 years and we know absolutely nothing about it, except that it isn’t AmigaDE/Intent. We don’t know if it’s based on OS 3.x or some or all of Hyperion’s OS 4 code, or the reason that their agreement came to an end. This is all we know:
“Anyone who worked, works, or is going to work on OS 4 better get paid. We have made offers to Hyperion to resolve this matter that we believe are fair, but we have been turned down on three separate occasions. At this point, we are still trying to work it out.”
Hyperion have their own Q&A aoon. What will they say about their relationship with Amiga Inc? The guessing game continues. It’s crazy!

Bill McEwen — It is my hope that OS 4 can be resolved and that product will begin shipping and be available on more than one device. We paid and know that it can run in the embedded space so I believe that there is an opportunity of seeing more than one product in that family in the next 12 months. You will also see several releases of AmigaAnywhere on various platforms and companies partnerships that will drive us forward, and you will also see some company acquisitions, where we have purchased some other company assets.
…before it went under. It’s a good thing operating systems like AROS, Syllable, and Haiku are around now to pickup the slack. Wouldn’t it be cool if someone put up a portal tracking the progress and explaining the differences of these “next generation” operating systems? I bet there would be lots of developers joining in to work on these projects in their spare time.
Hey, I missed the original Amiga phenomenon.
But by all accounts, the original Amiga was way cool and far ahead of its time.
But it’s now 2006. The people are different. The hardware is different. The company(ies) are different.
The new AmigaOS has been started from scratch. Everything is different.
The *only* thing that links this new Amiga with the old is the name.
I’m genuinely interested in the thoughts of people who are excited about this new Amiga.
Why are you excited about this?
I’m all for OSes for the sake of OSes. Different ways of doing things.
What does the new Amiga bring to the table today? Aside from confusion, of course. Because that’s what I usually get out of reading articles on Amiga.
Or is this really just a case of companies raping a grand old name?

– fantastic scaleability
– by far best and most responsive multitasking of the bunch

The Amiga was once my main computer, and my favourite computer. After waiting so long for an official successor that never arrived, I’ve moved on. I just don’t care any more.
