A few days ago we reported on the release of Cairo 1.2.0– as it turns out, this also happens to be the first stable Cairo release with support for BeOS. Haiku’s app_server uses a different 2D graphics library, Anti-Grain Geometry. Also, Haiku now has a driver for NE2000 compatible network cards. This means developers can now test the networking stack with QEMU, which emulates an NE2000 compatible card.
A little typo over there… 😉
So this works on BeOS, but not Haiku?
Did I read that correctly?
My understanding is that Cairo experimentally supports BeOS and more specifically Haiku. The linked article from Haiku just mentions what it does and equates it roughly to the existing Anti-Grain Geometry which Haiku devs might have a better understanding of.
I have no idea which is better, though.
Well, Cairo will be required for Firefox 3, so that is probably the most important reason to get it ported.
And it’s a mozillian coder from Austria who wrote the Cairo port specifically for BeOS. I think – but ain’t sure – that he received a Zeta distro from YellowTab – so this work might have been partially funded by YT.
BeOS gets a rap mention. News article on http://www.beosnews.com
New ELQ article coming soon to Bedoper.com. ; )
