eComStation (eCS) is an Internet enabled platform for business desktop computing. The focus of eCS is to provide an organization with a set of world class business applications and an application engine which can support multiple API sets. eCS is REXX enabled and comes with support for DOS, Java, Windows 3.1, OS/2 applications. Here are some screenshots of the installation process of the upcomming eComStation 1.1. We did a review of eCS 1.0 a few months ago. On a related note, IBM refreshed the Java Development Kit 1.3.1 for OS/2 (paid subscription required to download it).
nuff said!
Consequently I probably may expect eCS Japanese?

I had been checking the OS/2 News and eCS 1.1 is expected to be very cool. Many programs that had been released for OS/2/eCS are expected to be included in eCS next release, like a PMFormat replacement, etc, etc..
Hope eCS 1.1 doesn’t look old like 1.0. The reason why I didn’t tried it is because of that, it looks aged.
not the os’s fault, must be the horrifying cost charged for it
It’s actually an evolutionary change from OS/2 4.5 as far as *look* is concerned. There was a lot more work in the graphic design than you might think, but there’s always an eye of not turning off the “conservative” business community. I like the look, I wish a few things could change though. Desktop Themes for the whole desktop would be nice, as well as an enhanced file selection box (ie windows) that would let you create new folders while you’re at it. I’m seeing progress though and so as long as that continues, I’m happy.
What does it offer that other os’s don’t have?
I’ve been running OS/2 for quite a while, and now for the past year eCS. I just love the OO GUI, the WPS/PMShell combination still got features that the Redmond Windy-gui desperately needs.
It is nicely configurable without giving you the “left alone in the desert without water” feeling that some X-Window windowmanagers gives you.
The look is fresh and yet a bit conservertive … no teletubbies/Fisher-price feeling here … no 100% transparency, driving you nutts and the functionality is all-powerfull.
I’m really looking forward to eCS 1.1, that and VPC for eCS will really make me poor this fall…
Live long and prosper…
