Microsoft at the 11th hour has extended support for a popular tool that lets users scan Windows computers for unpatched programs and other security flaws. They originally planned to end support for version 1.2 of the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer on Friday. However, following user feedback, the company has now extended support until an undetermined date.
that lets users scan Windows computers for unpatched programs and other security flaws
Does the tool report the newest IE exploit for which MS still hasn’t realeased a security fix?
But than again i would rather prefer to scan any windows with nessus instead.Sad!
It’s not a replacement for Nessus. It’s not just a network-oriented scanning tool, but rather a system analyzer that reports on software, configuration, and service vulnerabilities.
Just as an example, it would catch things like the Guest account being enabled over Terminal Services, and the like.
These are nonsense news from ZDNet side.
MBSA 2.0 has been available for months:

MBSA 1.2 is just the old version of the tool.
No, this is not nonsense. Read the whole article, not just one paragraph.
