The Enlightenment team has released a new version of e16, e16-0.16.8.1. This is mainly a bugfix release. You can download it from the download page (well, if it’ll appear there, 0.16.8 isn’t listed either), or wait until your distributor packages it for you. In addition, Rasterman announced a few days ago that CVS was back up.
Just release e17 already.
It’s been YEARS. It’ll probably never be out. I bet Duke Nukem Forever will be released first.
Why don’t you just test e17 via Elive? [1] It is pretty decent– 100% more than what Duke Nukem Forever has ever shown us.

“It is pretty decent– 100% more than what Duke Nukem Forever has ever shown us.”
Sure, but to show 100% more than Duke Nukem Forever you just have to show *anything at all*.
That said, E17, even though it’s not my cup of tea, is very nice.

Elive is very nice. In fact, its a delight. Sometimes a bit over the top, but you can see from the screens as it starts up that this is from the same country that brought you the Trappist triple, Art Nouveau, Breughel and Magritte. And the young Jeff Geraerts, that most underrated and Swiftian of European novelists. Well, brought us a whole host of things, many of which come to mind as the startup screens flash by.
Everyone should fire up Elive. Would I use it as my main system? No. But I wouldn’t paper my walls with Breughel either, extraordinary though it it….
I’m using e17 compiled from CVS on my AMD64 machine and it works just fine… All the eye-candy of an XGL-based setup with none of the aggravation. 🙂
All the eye-candy? Including an Exposé-like feature, a rotating cube and transparent movie playing?
I wouldn’t say ALL the eye-candy of XGL myself. In fact, E17 could even benefit from XGL. I would like to see E17 leverage XGL.
I think it’s great that even with the all the work being done on 17 that theres still work done to keep 16 moving forward.
OK. Do we really need 5 different numbers in a release numbering scheme?
