In a bid to simplify its product lines and get an edge on competitors, Cray plans a multi-year strategy to unify four different supercomputing technologies into a single, versatile machine. The company plans to announce the concept Monday with its multi-year, three-phase “adaptive supercomputing” plan, said Jan Silverman, senior vice president of corporate strategy.
Wouldn’t it be cool when someone asks you what you run and you could say “I run a Cray!”
Or even a PDA… “Is that a Cray in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”
Dude… you’re getting a Cray!
and other stupid Antics…
Frankly that would make sense as they’ve got brand appeal. They could license the brand name to Dell for high-performance desktops/workstations. Really, that’d be close to free money for them. Or perhaps ink a deal with Levono (IBM was famous for ThinkPads not desktops).
Why not team up with SUN and develop a technical workstation that is based around the Opteron plus Cray’s own special sauce.
