ReactOS developer Ged Murphy posts on ReactOS’s blog website: “Ok, well I’m gonna start blogging, considering that’s what we set this thing up for. This, my first ReactOS blog, will attempt to shed some light on the audit process answering the many questions which commonly appear on IRC. Firstly, why has the audit progress bar been stuck on 15% for the past few weeks?”
Finally some action! I still think Reactos is the most promising piece of software project on the net right now. Linux is second. KDE third. Who wants a poll?
If the problem is that ReactOS might contain code under copyright to others, then wouldn’t releasing the code, even if only under read-only privileges, still be breaking the copyright in that they are possibly releasing others’ copyrighted code?
However, it’s great to see that they are moving along fairly quickly. Good luck to them.
This has nothing to do with copyright. I’ve explained it thoroughly in the last couple articles on this, but I give up, so this is all I’m saying. 😉
It’s good to here that development has resumed with auditing taking place at the same time.
I’m glad this project is getting back on track, I think it’s a great idea, and can’t wait to try out 0.3
!!!
Hmm Someone would have to start a movement to allow legally to any software company or developper, to check the code of any other company or developper… even if only for legal concerns about copirights… Even if they can not use it, in anyway later, if it is legally closed.
The present situation only give advantages to companies that have thir source closed, and can use other code if it is not noticed…
I guess only the European Union, US, and with help from Japan, have enough weight to achive that.
Would be interesting to see a AUDIT of Windows Vista or XP code!!!
I bet there would be very surprising revelations for many people…

Agreed. I believe that within most versions of Windows there is much code that MS did not make themselves.

IIRC there was some BSD licenced code in Windows. But that’s OK as long authors are mentioned.
Of course there is. MS regularly licenses 3rd party code to do various things. Whether is drivers for a certain piece of hardware, codecs, etc, its not unheard of. You and the previous poster imply there is something nefarious going on, and i don’t think that’s accurate.
