Screenshots are available of Mandriva’s 2006.0 beta, following the release announcement. “This live CD is a complete Mandriva Linux system, which you can use directly from the CD or install on your hard drive. It includes OpenOffice.org, KDE, Firefox, GIMP, Amarok, etc.”
I hope they fixed the ATI drivers in this release; when I tried Mandriva 2006 my screen was purple.
Yes, this is based on the latest 2006 Community, which means it has an updated X.org over the initial 2006 release. In general it should be more stable and bug-free thanks to the updates done since 2006 release.
Thom, it would have been nice to link to the news on the Mandriva Club instead of some random South African website, and mention that this is a new product with a significant change over previous MDV live CDs (the installation feature)…
The domain seems to be Canadian and not South African (.co.za).
oh, yes, you’re right. I should try putting on glasses before I start posting . Still random, though…

In other words it’s the same as 2006 Community with all updates applied(but limited set of packages being a live CD naturally).
Would you reccomend installing this one and eventually add missing stuff with urmpi, or installing the stock 2006 and then upgrade everything?
Meh, I wouldn’t say one is particularly better than the other, you’ll wind up with the same stuff either way. Take your pick.

Thanks, that was actually the answer I was hoping for:-) Think I’m going to try the live CD route, less to download. Since It’s lots of stuff on the 3 install CDs I don’t need.

LOL, at least we got some screenshots. Anyway, I’m glad to hear that 2006 release 0 beta has significant improvements over the 2006 edition released in mid 2005, IIRC. Live CDs are a much better adoption tool when you can install from them.
burn’t it twice- starts to boot and stops after about 30 seconds.
If you could report a bug on http://qa.mandriva.com/ , that’d be great. Can you try booting it again and hit “Esc” on the booting screen so you get all the information on what’s actually going on? You should see some kind of error message there to say what actually caused the hang.
rebooted, hit esc – nothing happens, suspect kernel is not loading, any hints for boot up scripts?
how far does it get exactly?
initial screen pops up , I press enter , second screen pops up , runs for about 20 seconds and stops, progress bar shows about 1/3 of the way, cdrom stops spinning -?
