Parallels launched the beta program for Workstation 2.1, an upgraded version of their desktop virtualization solution. This version adds new features like USB support, PAE-mode support, wireless networking support, and a new tools package. The program runs Solaris virtual machines too. The beta is fully functional for 45 days.
I would really like FreeBSD host support. Does anyone know if it will be coming anytime soon?
I hope FreeBSD upport will come eventually… But having MacOS support will be far more exciting

Has anyone lined this up next to VMWare’s Workstation(or Server Beta), Virtual PC, or Bochs? I’d be curious to see where the best performance is found.
The new VMWare Server beta feels pretty slow on my machine when compared to Virtual PC. However I am aware that snappy video/console response is not likely to be the primary goal of the Server product.
I gave up on Parallels after it would not work under Mandriva 2006 because of PAE.
I got the VMware server and installed that.
However, once they emailed me about the 2.1 version supporting PAE, I downloaded and installed it.
I noticed since version 2.0 that Parallels seems far faster on this machine than Vmware does. I have tried quite a few Windows versions and Linux and they all ran faster.
I will have to have a blast at one of the Solaris live CDs that I have collected over the past that did not work on 2.0. I might try Nexenta first !
I spoke to someone at Parallels who said that they’re planning multi-platform support in the near future. At his suggestion, I signed up for their newsletter which they use to release important information (like new primary OS support) to the user base. You can sign up for it on http://www.parallels.com .
