This release brings a grid view in the file chooser, improved settings panels for
Device Security, Accessibility, etc, and refined quick settings in the shell. The Software
and Files apps have seen improvements, and a whole slew of new apps has joined
the GNOME Circle.
The release notes have all the details. The grid view in the file chooser alone would be worth a major version bump, considering how long it took them to implement it.
I did not think gtk would survive, my prediction was wrong. Here we are with an even worse linux desktop than ever before.
They do have a hard-on for that Apple look.
As long as it doesn’t act like a mac, macOS is horrible to use.
Well, all the other DE have a hard-on for the Windows look so a bit of diversity isn’t that bad.
Jeeze, if you read the release notes the changes all sound reasonable, logical and user-oriented. Admittedly this has not always been the case with GNOME, but I find it kind of astounding that this is the first response someone has to this particular release.
Welcome to OSNews!
My experience with Linux desktop is getting worse but certainly not because of GNOME, which keep improving, especially with the latest releases.
What drives me mad is (I do use Ubuntu) I now have to deal with Snaps, Flatpaks and AppImages. I liked when all I had to do was simply type “sudo apt upgrade” in a terminal.
