Microsoft yesterday released a new beta build 2800.1067 of Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 to its set of external testers. The email sent to testers states that this new beta build includes all IE 6 security patches up to and including the security patch released on May 15th which addresses Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-023. The report was found at ActiveWin.

…if it was possible to “slipstream” the whole IE6 to a W2K installation CD.

what about standards compliance? did they fix png transparency yet?
too bad IE isn’t as powerful as Opera, or even Mozilla. Yawn.
Did they fix the annoying bug where favorites load in the wrong window? IE – you have browser window A open, you launch browser Window B to open another webpage, so you click a bookmark and it switches BACK to browser window A and loadds it there – ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
They finally fixed this in the 5.5 service packs and then broke it again in 6.0. WTF ??? Why does this seem to be so damn hard for them to keep it working ?

Probably because Open Source projects like Mozilla are superior to closed source debacles like IE.
“Probably because Open Source projects like Mozilla are superior to closed source debacles like IE. ”
Well, I wouldn’t go that far. As long as I have been running IE, never have I seen it consuming more than 100MB of RAM (not even Win2k consomes that much) .. I can’t say the same for Mozilla
Anybody know if this SP1 at least contain a patch so that we can view webpages sending Content-Type: application/xhtml+xml ?
I find it rather ridiculous to have to check for MSIE and send text/html, sending application/xml to IE causes it to display an error for any include CSS.
if( $ENV{‘HTTP_USER_AGENT’} =~ /MSIE/ ) {
my $content = `random_windows_virus`;
print $content;
exit 0;
}
i mean really now, isn’t that just slightly bloated?
you can run an entire *nix on 32MB
Yeah, the memory usage used to be horrible. But not anymore. I have 3 different web pages open in 3 different frames, with several downloads going in the download manager (I’m running 1.1alpha). Task manager says 24,908K used by mozilla.exe.
I seriously doubt that all the gaping security holes have been fixed in this update. Internet Explorer is and will always be the most buggy, vulnerable POS web browser ever. Why, just today a *new* security hole was found. Just go to http://online.securityfocus.com/archive/1/281367/2002-07-08/2002-07… This lovely M$ bug allows local file reading, arbitrary command execution, stealing cookies, among other things. If you like being 0wn3d by devious script kiddies, continue using MSIE. For the people who want privacy, standards, and fast rendering, use Mozilla.
M$IE…19 security vulnerablilities and counting: http://www.pivx.com/larholm/unpatched/
I don’t have any problem loading favorites from a new window in IE 6. It loads it in the correct window. I’m not sure what your problem is.

Try opening one up from the Links bar.
… to Mozilla and honestly, I don’t look back.
In my experience IE6 is definitely inferior to Mozilla in many ways. It would insist to save images as BMP instead of JPG. New windows wouldn’t be maximized. The status bar disappeared all the time etc. etc.
And with the impertinence of M$ increasing by the month, I have most M$ applications (including IE) filtered by my firewall software.

Works fine.

IE uses a lot that you don’t know about. After all, it essentially loads up with windows…
