Alphabet Inc.’s Google reached an illegal deal with Facebook Inc. to maintain a chokehold over the lucrative digital advertising market, according to a lawsuit filed by 10 states led by Texas.
The complaint, which targets Google’s central role in the buying and selling of display ads across the web, was filed in federal court in Texas Wednesday.
The regulatory onslaught is here, and I have more than enough popcorn in the house to enjoy myself.
I see Facebook as the scapegoat and Google/Apple prevails in the end.
I feel there was a lot of pushback because of action taken by the EU. The same was true GDPR. Now American regulators and other interested parties have sniffed blood and a buck it’s open season. Also thinking of GDPR what in heavens name are Facebook trying on by shifting data fro a GDPR jurisdiction to the US? GDPR is still law in the UK even after this wretched Brexit. There is also legal precedent underlining that the US is not a safe harbour for sensitive personal data not to mention all that Patriot act and the company owns your data nonsense. Meanwhile not a peep out of the UK government. So much for “taking back control”.
The wording on the title here is pretty deceptive. Putting the “alleged by XYZ” at the end really buries the lead and gives the presumption of fact to the alleged claim. “Texas claims Google and Facebook had illegal deal to rig ad market” is a much more balanced way to present it I think,
