We all know that PSP users who haven’t upgraded their firmware beyond 1.50 are able to run third party hobby applications as opposed to just commercial ones. This community has ported a large number of emulators to the PSP able to run almost every console game ever released. Apparently, someone also ported the Basilisk-II 68k emulator which allows users to run a full copy of Mac OS 8.1 on it. Video here (since that video was made a new version of the port allows for a much faster runtime).

I’d recommend turning your volume off before looking at the video, the song is pretty awful (some may find it distasteful) and there’s nothing else to hear in the video.
A perfectly good comment, moderated down because someone didn’t agree with it. This is what happens when you try to moderate comments down that you don’t agree with:
“Disagreeing with a comment or a user is not a valid reason to use the moderate. Comment votes are alloted to draw attention to insightful and informative comments and remove trash and trolls from our forums. They should not be used to remove comments with which you do not agree.”
Read it people, those of you moderating me down like that are lying by saying it’s for any other reason than your dissagreeing with what I’ve said. This is what’s called abusing the voting system and I hope you get your accounts deleted for it.

The article links to a video, as a curteousy I mentioned that some might want to turn their volume off during the video since not everyone would like the music (it does contain offensive language imo). The video was part of the article, and I was just trying to give people a friendly warning. That is not off-topic.

Then your post should have been modded down too, right? Instead it was moderated up to 4. The whole situation doesn’t make any sense. Celerate’s comment wasn’t even off-topic. I’ve seen other comments much more off-topic rated up instead of down. This is certainly not the first time.
Now I just have to wait and see how low this post will be rated.

You have to remember that there are people in any discussion group that can not tolerate an opinion that disagrees with theirs and will mod you down if you post one. Personally, I don’t feel that being off topic a bit rates using the moderate feature. And I must admit I did not find your post to be off topic.
That being said, I would hate to see accounts closed because of it. They are entitled to their opinion as well. Besides, it sometimes makes for lively discussions. 🙂

The DKM are not skin heads nor are they right-wing as that implies. For a kick-off, they’re supporting the Pogues here in Ireland and there’s no way a bunch of skin heads could get on stage in Dublin for more than 10 minutes without being bottled off.

I was about to say, since when are the Dropkick Murphys right-wing? They aren’t skin-heads at all, they’re a bunch of Irish folk having fun making music. Reminds me of the whole Rammstein crap– German industrial metal, and as such they MUST be nazis, some people said. Complete nonsense of course, but for some people, these words stick, and a stigma is born.
The DKM are regurlarly played at my local Irish Pub (Maguires in Alkmaar), and even though I don’t particularly enjoy the DKM, they do add to the atmosphere in there

Back to topic, I do like people messing around doing things like this. The people doing this might, in the future, make a great contribution by using their knowledge acquired here to create a really cool app, or to contribute to another project.

It’s also worth mentioning that “skinhead” doesn’t automatically mean “racist” / “white surpremacist,” contrary to popular assumption.
It’s actually Military Protocol in the British Army at least to have your head shaved, and would be refered to as skin-heads… so as you say skinhead does not automatically mean “racist” / “white supremacist”

It’s a shame they don’t open the product up to other developers. As you can see you can do some pretty incredible stuff. Image if they went open source with their code. Better Audio/Video codec support, better applications, better product all around.

Given that this is pretty cool, it doesn’t seem to have much of a purpose to run Mac OS 8 on a PSP. Did he even have any space to copy much else? I couldn’t quite tell what he was copying there.
Beyond playing oregon trail it doesn’t seem to have much applicibility, nothing on Mac OS 8 made me say “Wow! I want that”, even at the time when it came out. Not trying to wine or anything it’s just more like ok we can do it, now what?

is when filming something like this, set the camera on a stand, and put the PSP on a table or something, get the focus set up, then film, this would have made the quality so much nicer… Just a thought…

Just a correction, you can run homebrewed software on higher firmware versions aswell. The only problem is that kernel mode applications can’t be runned, so I can’t run this BasiliskII with my 2.00 firware, but ScummVM for example workes perfectly. More Information: http://www.fanjita.org

Forgive my spelling in the subject, as it is most likely far from correct, but I’m sure I’ve seen an item like this before here, forgive me if it was for another device the m68k Emu was ported to, I just have some recollection of reading about MacOS on PSP on OSnews.

This in general is what’s wrong with the moderation systems both here and at Slashdot. People can’t be trusted to fairly moderate. On one hand you’ve got people playing politics, and on the other hand people just offering kneejerk reactions to a comment. The site would be better off with one dictator just making the calls and screw what the common poster thinks. We all know what they say about opinions, and it’s never more clear than in these moderation schemes. Even on the positive side, who’s really qualified to decide what’s “insightful”? Bring in a bonafide computer genius and let him/her do it, otherwise what’s the point? Rob made a mistake at Slashdot with the point system, and it’s just being repeated here.
