Foreigners crossing certain Chinese borders into the Xinjiang region, where authorities are conducting a massive campaign of surveillance and oppression against the local Muslim population, are being forced to install a piece of malware on their phones that gives all of their text messages as well as other pieces of data to the authorities, a collaboration by Motherboard, Süddeutsche Zeitung, the Guardian, the New York Times, and the German public broadcaster NDR has found.
The Android malware, which is installed by a border guard when they physically seize the phone, also scans the tourist or traveller’s device for a specific set of files, according to multiple expert analyses of the software. The files authorities are looking for include Islamic extremist content, but also innocuous Islamic material, academic books on Islam by leading researchers, and even music from a Japanese metal band.
China is basically performing ethnic cleansing on a massive scale, and it’s using technology to aid in its goal o eradicating an entire population group. It’s chilling, and every single technology company active in China – or worse yet, aiding the regime – should be held accountable.
They are using their financial clout to extend their social agenda. I am not saying they are the only nation doing it, however they seem to be quite content in performing all these actions in an open fashion.
You “have to” go to a trade show in China to get access the state of the art manufacturing facilities.
You “need” Chinese investment in many Asian and African nations, especially after you have exhausted IMF and other western sources.
You “cannot” go head on against China, while there are many other conflicts in the world.
The current government seems to know this, and use it to the full extend.
China’s is sprinting to the Lowest Common Denominator in so many areas it’s going to need a war to dig itself out, they’ll happily start one to offset any internal revolution! If the world is 2 minutes to midnight, China must be just seconds away, there is a whole generation of western influenced rebels about to hit the social and financial mainstream! They want their 100″ OLED’s and Mercedes on a 24″ LCD and Mazda 2 budget!
At the moment the rest of the world is paying/covering a bill that China has no intention of settling!
China should be isolated and cut off from any trade with us (G7).
They pose an alternative societal model based upon total state control and obedience.
We should not support this in any way and do everything for it to fail, because if they are succesful, it might hit us next. It must be opposed with all force, and China must be made to fail and change its evil ideology. The world must not get the impression that such an evil system could work.
We have pumped up China by “investing” in it in the 90s. I worked at a large telecoms firm at the time, now bankrupt, and saw Chinese “customers” come and get training, know how etc. They bought a little equipment, then made it themselves. It has been going on since 1994 at least, and many many more companies lost loads of money in China, only a few ever gained (if they did, it was often a lot because of the sheer number of people, which blinded us all).
They have been masters at playing us, using our greed against us, in order to rise and dominate the world according to their plan, with their ideology to bring “harmony”, i.e. total submission to all people of the world.
baki,
You make plenty of good points, and it’s interesting that you tie in economics, however it doesn’t make much sense to blame china for a lot of that, You call it “playing us”…phooey! It’s the corporations (ie largely wall street) who are deliberately exploiting all sides including china. China became exactly what we encouraged them to become and did what our corporations asked of them. We made them into what they are. Maybe you feel they should have stood up our corporate corruption, but it would be totally hypocritical since we haven’t stood up to it either and we’re absolutely as corrupt as china in this regard.
Sure we can all disagree with what china does to take away rights of it’s citizens, but Chinese employees worked very hard for low pay and often under brutal conditions, meanwhile american workers expect higher pay, benefits, safety, etc. China’s workers rank higher than ours on the fitness function determined by wall street. Obviously I understand why american workers want what they do, but nevertheless the result is that we just aren’t that competitive in a genuinely free market, so much so that american manufacturing is often non-viable and virtually all our mega corporations find chinese factories to be more profitable. Our workforce is loosing at capitalism in our own markets and deep down, that’s what really bothers us. Everyone’s trying to make up excuses for why we’re loosing so badly on trade and blaming china for our failures. You call it “using our greed against us”, but the truth is our companies decided to go with china because of cheap labor and cutthroat efficiency (and they continue to do so). Our greed is our fault! Until we address that it’s useless to externalize blame. Today the official US response is trying to address the symptoms using tariffs. But unfortunately, we’re going to continue loosing at capitalism if we keep blaming china for everything while doing nothing to improve ourselves.
Absolutely spot-on. Our current course of action does nothing but waste rubber and create smoke without getting anywhere. Corporate greed is the root cause of many of the problems we face and I’m not particularly convinced that even if we had the will to stand up against it, that anything would change. We live in a world where money == power, it’s as simple as that. I’m not confident humanity would change its’ ways even were it on the precibus of extinction if it didn’t. Corporations and their disgusting behavior is man’s creation. It’s in our nature to do this to ourselves.
To improve conditions for Chinese citizens (that are bad because of isolation with the rest of the world); you want to ruin conditions for Chinese citizens (by destroying the Chinese economy and causing massive unemployment) and isolate China from the rest of the world even more?
Have you considered that maybe your ignorance is dangerous?
From their perspective; they have been successful and your (capitalist, democratic) ideas are an “evil system that must be made to fail”, not that they really care. Heck, they probably think it’s failing all by itself anyway (do you think politicians actually represent their constituents? that democracy can’t be subverted by marketing and social media? that pure capitalistic competition works (without the need for regulation for large/”monopoly” companies)?).
If you truly want to “fix the problem” you need to change their culture and their society. In other words, you need “ethnic cleansing” to make a difference. Do you understand the irony?
Many people do not understand China, and why it scores so poorly in civic honesty tests like the one recently published in Science.
https://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2019/06/19/science.aau8712
I’ve found India and China to be very similar yet very different, China has the following significant cultural difference. In the western society if you don’t pay your bills you are a scoundrel, in China you are lauded as a good business person if you find a way to get out of paying. In China it’s the duped individual who left you the “no pay loophole” that is derided as a fool. The proverb “A fool and his money are soon parted” takes on a whole new meaning in China!
Dealing in China “Don’t pay the ferryman until he gets you to the other side” really means something!
Also, in European nations doing the work has a cultural value, while in China finding a shortcut is deemed more valuable!
cpcf,
Then why don’t you have any insight as to why Morocco, Peru, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Ghana, or Mexico also score so poorly? What are you too scared to say about those people that you aren’t afraid to say about Chinese?
Then why are European nations like Portugal, United Kingdom, Greece and Italy at the bottom of that list in Europe? Why, according to your ingenious theory, aren’t all European nations where doing work has a cultural value about the same when it comes to civic honesty?
Europeans never take shortcuts, do they?
It would be enlightening to hear your shitty excuses to cover up your flawed, dog-whistling, theories.
I can tell from your post you assume I’m European, but I’m not and I’ve lived and worked in several countries including China.
Of those above I only work in Malaysia, the difficulty in Malaysia is that is has relatively open borders so the population is a highly diverse. I can’t say that China is culturally diverse in much the same way I can’t say it’s democratic. A poignant issue in relation to the discussed story and the study I linked.
The study is neither racist or biased, and making such accusation is just a diversion.
I don’t frequently travel to or work in those regions, but I can speculate it relates to the relative value of items, without culturally lumping “All Europeans” into the same culture, is that fair?
I don’t generalise, exceptions are not a valid cultural norm, that’s obvious.
Yet the United Nations Human Rights Council does nothing.
China should be isolated and cut off from any trade with us (G7).
Guess where I’m not vacationing.
