HyperCard is a new kind of application-a unique information environment for your Apple Macintosh computer. Use it to look for and store information-words, charts, pictures, digitized photographs-about any subject that suits you. Any piece of information in HyperCard can connect to any other piece of information, so you can find out what you want to know in as much or as little detail as you need.
The original, complete manual for Apple’s HyperCard.
My first “programming” experience was with the “train” tool in HyperCard. After so many years, I still have fond memories.
Granted, there were no “if” statements, or variables. However setting up tracks, and letting the train go in a predetermined way, using corner, tee or similar track pieces got enough of my intrigue to enable where I am today.
Sometimes I wish to find an older Mac, and just try it once more after so many years. However I have pretty much given up on that idea.
I’m not sure how it compares (because I’m not familiar with either except in the vaguest sense), but https://livecode.com/ is “inspired” by HyperCard.
“On-line help is assistance you can get from an application program while it’s running.”
Back when on-line apparently ment something completely different. XD
I still have the Swedish HyperCard 2.1 and English 2.2 manuals sitting on a shelf. Too much nostalgia to ever get rid of those. Same thing with the 300+ pages thick Mac Classic manual.
It didn’t really need 300 pages …more like, I don’t know, 3. Maybe 30.
