It’s possible to link some Database tables and do some CRUD with it.
Access can do this for more than 10 years (with the only difference that Access is stable and fast, OO Base is extremely slow and buggy).
Play with it recently (stable windows on my work pc)it seemed pretty stable and usable. I’m impressed how good it is for being a first run oss product. If anyone used oo 1.0 knows that it wasn’t usable until 1.o.3. 1.1 was better 2.0 was a breath of fresh air. Considering my home pc has Linux its nice that I can have the same office package on both.
By the way Access wasn’t the first database program and won’t be the last. Of course its usable and stable considering its been around for so long. Regardless I can use OO Base for free and yes it very stable. Try doing that legally with Ms Access.
I think base is a poor substitute for access and that is rather unfortunate. OOo is a decent suite and certainly is an excellent office app for home users. It would have been nice if they could have at least made base good enough (i.e. quick and attractive) for really simple tasks such as making personal records or small customer databases so that home users and small biz users wouldn’t be put off by the product. I feel that it drags down the whole suite because it just isn’t on par with the other apps. Fortunatley, the vast majority of office users would probably not touch a database.
