With a recent releases of the new kernels (latest being 022stab050) and tools we can now declare OpenVZ status as stable. There has been a lot of advances during last three months of development: better OS templates and tools, improved stability due to a lot of openvz and mainstream bug fixes, better CPU fair scheduler, support for x86_64 and IA64 architectures, and a lot of new hardware (see the hardware compatibility list)
When I was looking for a VPS many moons ago and the choice was between UML or the generally more expensive Virtuozzo™ vendors.
Does this project have the potential to help build an open source Virtuozzo clone to run on top of OpenVZ ?
OpenVZ is a subset of Virtuozzo™. It has potential to become Virtuozzo clone, but has no such goal. You can check differences at

.
Yes, I know it’s a subset, that’s why I used the words “on top of” and I know it has no such goal, that’s why I used the term “to help build” rather than “to build”. What I was getting at was what are the chances of an open source Virtuozzo to complement it, maybe a question only a developer could answer.
While OpenVZ project does not have a goal to compete with Virtuozzo GUIs and advanced tools, we do have a goal to help as much as we can to help people who tries to implement such things (management tools, GUI/Web interfaces et cetera). We can provide help and support to such developers, as well as some resources like project hosting, access to hardware and such things.
