Why does every UI associated with Linux always have to look so cartoonish and amateurish. You’d think QT with their expensive licensing fees would have enough to hire a professional designer! Anyone agree?

Who are you trolling for?
cartoonish and amateurish
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t personally love the default look of any UI that comes to mind, but I don’t try to impose my opinions about the look of a UI on others. I really get tired of people who feel that their opinion of aesthetics is the only valid one. As long as a UI allows a user to accomplish a task efficiently, it is sufficient for most users (even if it looks like it was designed by FisherPrice).
Sensitive much?
So go and make theme with obituaries.
Now if only I could get a Linux phone with:
– Qwerty (think blackberry, ideally in the form of the Qtek 9100 with slide out keyboard)
– WLAN
– (mini) SD slot
– Headphone jack (wanna hear my MP3)
– a decent cam would be a plus. BUt that doesn’t really exist I guess
– UMTS would be a plus too.
at a halfway sane (say under 800$ without contract) price, I’d totally buy it. But alas the only Linux smart phone is the Motorola one with useless stuff such as GPS but no Qwerty or Wifi.
Philips has released a smart phone that runs linux , and based on qt/e – the 968.
The next version will have SVGT support so you can even make it more cute and animated.
I wish they would finish their Linux distro for the Zaurus’s via qtopia.net. They’re the only ones that come remotely close to what Sharp released. OpenZaurus just isn’t that complete to my liking.
