I bought Opera 3.62 for BeOS.. does that reg code still work for the new versions.. and for other OS’ ?
It also markets an OS/2 version for the stalwarts out there.
Man we NEED opera for OS/2. Or else were stuck with that thing called Mozilla. Only Linux user get Galeon. =(
You’re seeing less changes on the top, but obviously there are changes taking place underneath…It will have to have voice. Well, thats one new feature v7 might have. It will be interesting to see how Opera will integrate speech.
I bought Opera 3.62 for BeOS.. does that reg code still work for the new versions.. and for other OS’ ? Check Opera’s web site, you should be entitled to an upgrade for $15 US. Thats what I did.
if i buy this webbrowser, do i get free upgrades when a new version comes out??? or do i have to buy it all over again???
from 4.x and up.. i can upgrade for 15$..
so i’m up shit creek with no money to buy a paddle..
I’ve seen recently on the Plan9 mailing list that some people were hoping to port Opera to Plan9. This would be an enormous undertaking (yes, I know — but it is plan9), but If you do succeed, I will certainly buy it (there isn’t much to buy for plan9 anyway). I suppose you could make a non QT based version of Opera (and if possible, C instead of C++) — that would certainly simplify the port, unless the opera engine uses C++ inherently …
I’m at home with no money for the bus fare up to shit creek…
C’mon everyone, why does everyone whine about no money. $15 is less than 2 movie tickets. $15 is less than a tank full of gas. $15 is less than dinner in virtually every restaurant. These people bitching about no money probably have 3 gold chains around their neck, 17″ alloy mags, and a ‘high end’ Aiwa sound system.
Still kind of upset at every company that includes spyware to the unsuspecting masses. That includes Opera IMHO.
i seen Opera’s site, and at 15 bucks to upgrade a web browser that allready cost money is kindof like going down the M$FT trail to me, Free is still cheaper than 40 bucks and 15 to upgrade, i will stick with Mozilla…
It look like everyone are concern enough about spendig $15 but nobody seem to bother what M$ charge for their OS. In my opinion MS already include their $15 in the total price of their OS, but of course not many realize that seem most of it already inclusive (hidden) inside the computer price.
So the best thing is that buy a separate computer components and build the computer youself, download and install BeOS, Linux, xBSD or other ‘free’ OS and then pay $15 for the browser. If you still can’t afford, just download the free advetisement enable version or else stick to other browser.
Are you the fella that did the Qt & Konq port to BeOS?
If so are you planning on doing more work for it ie Qt3.0 assuming OBOS takes off?
Still kind of upset at every company that includes spyware to the unsuspecting masses. That includes Opera IMHO
How did you come to that conclusion?!!
Zenja, do you know that there are lot of countries where $15 is a weekly, or even monthly wage?
I, personally, is not from such a country, but my $1k salary stands for 4 country averages. I don’t eat at restaurants because I find this expensive. If I would get a country average salary, I would never think about gas, getting to work by bus. So I would find it ridiculous to pay for software. In fact nobody buys software in my country except those software titles that come with new computers. And I’ll repeat, my country is not the poorest on Earth.
Free software is a future for billions of uncomputerized people of Earth
People earning $15 a week, or a month, do not have computers, internet access, and aren’t even dreaming of it. They have other preoccupations.
Free software does not pay bills or buy food! Why don’t you work for free?
… sorry for my poor English
“Free software does not pay bills or buy food!”
IBM seems to think it does.

That’s because they will charge you big time to start the installer en explain the help files to you.
Opera has done something never done with shareware before: Instead of relying on it’s product’s quality for registrations, it attempts to coerce registrations out of it’s users by subjecting them to ads that blink, wiggle, flash, and vibrate without ceasing. I have resorted to covering the banner with notepad until I get a piece of static-cling plastic I can cut to size. No doubt someone will write an always-on-top panel to cover it eventually. Why not just register? Because I refuse to be coerced.
you did not see my point, pal
my point is that there are lot of people who prefer not to pay if they have possibility.
and you’re not completely right, Manik. There are lot of people who dream, and use computers, having $15 monthly wage. It could be 5 year old computers, borrowed from more prosperous friend, full of freeware and often pirated software; with pirated dial-up connection over the telephone network, usage for which does not cost you per minute. I know such people in person, they are nice and intelligent, simply living in countries that don’t call themselves the centre of the universe
opera 6.04 is out!
http://www.opera.com
Under the caption “Linux Bonanza”, why is the penguin with the Opera logo holding his nose???????!!!
snubbed again. opera 3.62 for beos is a bit creaky, but i’d still take it over mozilla, which crashes every five minutes.
i thought this was kind of strange, though:
I’ve heard complaints that the Windows version of Opera doesn’t handle Java all that well. Is that something you’re dealing with?
“A lot people don’t differentiate between Java and JavaScript. We have the most up-to-date version of Java that’s available. If the scripts are written for a Microsoft variant, then obviously it
won’t work with Java. ”
o-o-o-o-kay… so, does this mean that opera has javascript problems? whatever, i’m very fond of all platforms/versions of opera and i wish them massive success.

eudora, crystal ftp and plenty of other apps do this. it’s called adware. it’s a lot friendlier than nagware: “hi! thanks for using opera! we spent a lot of time developing it and would really appreciate it if you bought this.” or crippleware: “this is an unregistered version of opera. it will close down in twenty minutes.”

no, you refuse to pay. opera, like any other company, can’t rely on the quality of the product to sell it, because users will opt for using a free/cracked version if they can get one, don’t want support, don’t have to worry about software audits, et cetera. and that’s just fine, but let’s at least be honest. if you’re covering up your monitor with cling wrap and waiting for someone to hack a panel to cover the ads, then you’re not planning on buying it anyway. once again, that’s perfectly cool, but please don’t claim a moral high ground for not registering your software. if you want to talk about “coercionware”, then read about microsoft’s bootloader arrangements.
