Some newsbits from the world of processors. First, IBM detailed power-saving techniques in the new PowerPC 907MP (the dual-core G5). Secondly, “Fujitsu’s Sparc64 VI+ processor, code-named Jupiter and due for release in 2008, is a four-core processor with clock speeds of at least 2.7GHz, the company said Tuesday.” And to complement today’s batch of processor news, IBM unveiled the Xbox 360 processor.
Are there some more indepth articles regarding the Fujitsu SPARC processor? I’ve always been interested in reading up about it, considering the massive performance and development lead that Fujitsu’s processors seem to have over the current UltraSPARC line up on offer by SUN.
Lets hope that SUN doesn’t get a last minute case of the NIH syndrom and actually, in a prompt fashion, start to embrace the SPARC IV processor (and the current V) for more than just their high end systems – how about an update to the Blade 150 by upping the processor to a 1.8Ghz SPARC V along with a embedded Nvidia Quadro sitting on a PCIe.

Maybe just a typo, but the ultraSPARC IV+ is the latest version.
It will be interesting to see how the Fujitsu chip compares to Sun’s “Rock” processor due out around 2008 too:

i love sparc

Moore’s law is truly dead
Moore’s law never said anything about clockspeed (or speed for that matter). It refers to transistor density. That, at least, has been keeping up thus far.
The XBox 360 gets a tripple core 3.2Ghz processor!! Who’s supplying it? IBM. Oh but maybe they can’t make them in quantity? Well a lot of people will be buying the XBox 360 actually. But not as many as will be buying the Sony Playstation 3 which has a very similar if not identical processor also developed by IBM will sell in massive numbers. Is 2.5ghz the best that IBM can do for Apple?
This processor will blow any new PowerMac out of the water!
It’s just a bad company image on IBM’s side to deliver to one company and not the other. Size shouldn’t matter at all in customer service or support.
Bunch of greedy loosers at IBM.
