As every OS/2 and eComStation user should know by now, Warpstock Europe 2005, will take place in the city of Dresden, Germany, from November 18th to 20th. OS/2 and eComStation users come to Warpstock Europe because of interesting presentations and because they can meet and talk to people that they only know by their eMail addresses. The Warpstock Europe 2005 event team has worked in both directions to make sure that every visitor will enjoy and benefit from Warpstock Europe.
I’ve downloaded their Demo CD and it does not work with my PC. Athlon64 with nForce4, PCI-E graphics. It freeze on a black screen.
So, I guess OS/2 can’t handle new hardware.
PCI-E may be the problem, as I know that it supports Athlon64 in 32-bit-only mode.
You can probably get it to work using the IBM generic video drivers (gengradd I think), but it’s been so long since I did that that I can’t remember how. Maybe somebody else can volunteer that information.
It works with some new hardware, but it is known for being ‘selective’.
The demo worked fine for me, but I’m not using a 64bit platform.
Do you have Virtual PC or Bochs, Qemu?
These will do, if testing it is all you want to do
But nice to know OS/2 isn’t dead yet. I really hope some parts of OS/2 will be released as open source. It will make the remaking easier.
Seriously, who cares about OS/2 anymore. IBM had their chance to sell it and they blew it big time.
its still useful, ecs is still supported and people still like it. The users of the OS are the ones that care. Its a nice platform.
“Seriously, who cares about OS/2 anymore. IBM had their chance to sell it and they blew it big time.”
IBM couldn’t sell pussy on an aircraft carrier.
True, they aren’t very good at selling. However, some of the software they write is pretty darn good. 🙂
I think it says something that the press and the company have been actively trying to kill OS/2 for over a decade now but its user base simply won’t let it die…
My main desktop uptime is 31 days now. Time to reboot to DOS and make a backup!
I attended Warpstock Europe 1999. It was great. I enjoyed it alot.
Any useful links and so on for a noob to check out OS/2 Warp?
Here are a few links
http://www.os2world.com
http://www.os2voice.org
http://www.ecomstation.com
There should be enough links off these to let you find most of the OS/2 and eCS stuff out there.
