Rumors are swirling around a FAQ page for Google Secure Access Beta (of course) software that appears to be a VPN client. “If you choose to use Google Secure Access, your internet traffic will be encrypted and sent through Google’s servers to the Internet. The data that is received will then be encrypted and sent back through our servers to your computer.”

Google has achieved it in just 5 years.

You are a bit off topic aren’t you?
Microsoft’s aim is to put OS on every desktop.
Mac’s aim is to put the most beautiful GUI on every desktop.
Linux’s aim is to put the most useful OS on every desktop.
(Think about it, why are there so many options and configurations? Because SOMEONE still finds it useful.)
Granted, I’d love to know who uses the XT hard disk support in the kernel.

I’d love to know what an XT hard disk is…
its there, and supported, your dont HAVE to use it.. so why remove the code? The same can go for any feature.. Linux is only as bloated as you make it, assuming you compile your own kernel, or use a custom-class distro, as apposed to the bloat-class distros such as redhat (yes, I know its fedora now), or mandrake(and yes i know its mandriva now).
Apple: Think different!
Be Inc: Not just think different, do different!
Micro$oft: Think difficult!
Linux: Not just think difficult, do difficult!
Linux (GPL): Free your mind. Free your software. (Free – make libre).
Google WiFi locations in the San Francisco Bay Area
Its not a rumor, its just a limited pilot program. The VPN software itself works from anywhere, they just only have access points in the a limited area.

So how are these rumors, and how are they important to people who don’t live in the San Francisco Bay area? Is Google going to move into the wifi securing business?
Google Secure Access is simply a PTPP client, which auto configures server, username, and password over https.
You can even connect using the built in capabilities of OS X – http://www.kevinstock.com/osx/googlevpn/
I also heard a couple months back on Attack of the Show that there were rumors about Google buying up all the unused fiber optics around the country. Maybe a Google Broadband ISP in the future.
