Version 0.57 of Visopsys is now available for download. This is a bugfix and maintenance release. There are various GUI touch-ups, the Disk Manager (a.k.a. Partition Logic) now updates disk geometry information in FAT partitions after disk copy operations, the window ‘list’ component has been reimplemented, and a number of kernel improvements have been back-ported from the 0.6 development branch. As always, the ISO image is an installable live demo. Downloads here, changelog here, and Freshmeat announcement here.
What, exactly, are they trying to accomplish with this OS? It doesn’t look like very much; hell, windows 95 looked better, 10 years ago.

I’ve been following Viopsys for awhile, and while it’s a nifty idea it looks pretty useful–is there even any ports to it?

Thats the problem with your statement there isn’t a “they” its a “him” one person cranking out an OS. In my opinion a monstrous task and i am surprised it looks as good as it does. He clearly states on his website that its not that useful for individuals yet and he is waiting for it to mature more before he includes others in the developement process.
I got rated down for asking a question? Meh.
Anyway, It is a monstrous task, but it’s also a useless task considering the amount of decent, open source kernels there are. I don’t mind hobbyist OSes, but I didn’t know whether this was a community project or hobby, which is why I asked.

To feed the trolls…
Your question was highly disrespectful to the topic. Anyone that has gotten this far in OS development deserves some measure of respect – even from detractors.
This is a great project. There are too many people who comment on OS development from the backseat, rather than give it a shot and try to build something themselves. The author has accomplished a lot in this project and it is looking great.
Im installing it on our corporate network over the weekend Ill save our company BILLIONS!
in a few years we can have heated flame wars between this and skyOS
… all joking aside though, it is very nice looking for being a one man show.
but you are 10 years late
it sucks rather use windows 3.x
I would like to remember you that Haiku will literally eat SkyOS, and this is gonna happen in a few months.
