I am happy to see zeta moving in the right direction. If they could get the latest hardware working with driver support, I see no reason of BEOS not being brought back. I am waiting for a OpenOffice port for BeOS , BeUnited was involved at one point I dont know what happened to that project.

I really liked the bochs for beos that Bernd did.
I hope they have some luck using Winblows drivers in the future, if I use sound my destop crashes, and my video is all black unless I boot into safe mode.

Just download a Zeta torrent. It may seem a bit dubious morally, but as long as you format over it after a couple of days I don’t see a problem myself.
I did just that by the way and decided zeta’s not for me. I disliked the lack of software and the way the widgets seem tiny to me on todays common screen resolutions. YMMV, Zeta has strong points that may appeal to you.
And yes I deleted the installation and threw out the cd afterwards, and no I am not sorry I turned to the dark side to evaluate a product.
I have tried to install Zeta on different PCs, with no satisfactory results :
– on my Acer laptop, 4 years old, there is no support for ACPI
– on a DELL Dimension 4600 the Creative Sound Card is not recognized (3 years old)
– on a mini-itx system (Epia), the installation procedure goes in kernel panic in early stages, so I cannot test anything.
For me, for an operating system that costs about 80 Euro, is not acceptable.
I cannot find on YellowTab site one single patch or update available. Only today they have opened a download section.
I can only say that I have wasted 80 Euro.
That means fcuk all if you don’t tell us how other operating systems handle your machines *out of the box*.

FreeBSD on all three machines. NetBSD and OpenBSD on DELL and Epia.
Why doesn’t Zeta provide atleast three common system configurations that work fully out of the box?
Three types of systems could be Budget, Enthusiast and Professional. They could list all the components that work e.g. motherboard, cpu, ram, hd, video, sound, network, cd/dvd drives, etc.
I know they have that page that sorta shows what should work, but I want to see complete systems the “do” work without a shadow of a doubt.
You should just go to their site and look @ the supported hardware, thats all the items that should work out of the box.
I did, but I am not purchasing it yet, going to hold off.

Does anybody know if the download section will be for code that only works under Zeta or atleast comes with source code?
The reason I asked is that a number of drivers are no longer available in BeBits.
The author has transfered ownership of the code to YellowTab and I don’t see the drivers in Zeta’s download section.
If he had transfered to Haiku I atleast would be able to find the source code (it is always hard to find one piece of code in Haiku but it can be done) but YellowTab ofcourse is a for profit company and will only release code if they feel it is in their best interest – not mine.
Ofcourse, If YelloTab does release the drivers soon with code this entire rant in null and void – I hope that will happen.
All of those drivers are, in fact, in Haiku subversion, a fact Marcus never really publicized, for whatever reason. Apparently, YT has a version of the source that works a little better — it would be nice if that were contributed back to Haiku.

Thank you. That means I have to learn the new archive system then. I have not download Haiku code since the change over.
